Phonics Making Learning Visible in Continuous Provision
Continuous provision is most effective when children understand not just what they are doing, but why they are doing it. These planning overviews help practitioners make the learning behind each resource clear, purposeful and accessible to everyone working within the provision.
Designed to accompany the Phase 3 Phonics Colouring Sheets, the overview highlights the learning intentions, key vocabulary, suggested activities and opportunities for adult interaction. It helps practitioners move beyond simply providing a colouring activity to creating meaningful opportunities for children to recognise phonemes, practise letter formation, develop listening skills and build their phonics knowledge.
By making the value of each resource explicit, practitioners can support consistent practice across the setting, identify opportunities to extend learning and ensure that continuous provision remains purposeful, progressive and linked to children's next steps.
Because every resource should have a reason for being there, and every activity should support learning.
